Healthy Relationships
What makes a relationship
healthy?
A healthy relationship is one that makes you feel
safe, secure, trusted, and respected. You and
your partner are respectful of each other’s
opinions, without feeling the need to sacrifice
your own opinions. You are able to disagree without
yelling, swearing, or shoving one another. You
can communicate openly and feel safe enough to
be honest about how you feel with your partner.
The two of you also respect each other’s
time and space, and understand that you don’t
have to do everything together all the time. You
can trust that what your partner says to you is
true and that he or she would not pressure you
to do anything you don’t want to do. Healthy
relationships are balanced and each partner contributes
and gains an equal amount. A healthy relationship
can include many things; here are just a few additional
traits to a healthy relationship:
- Both people in the relationship
trust each other
- Talk openly with each
other
- Agree to disagree at times
- Respect each other’s
opinion, values, and feelings
- Support each other in
your goals
- You don’t spend
all your time together
- Enjoy your own activities
